“As a consumer, you want to associate with brands whose powerful presence creates a halo effect that rubs off on you”
Tom Peters

A region playing by its own rules
Groupon’s Asia-Pacific markets were mobile-first, fiercely competitive, and under real pressure by 2015. The flagship product couldn’t simply be exported there: the region needed an experience shaped around how its consumers and merchants actually meet.
Both sides of the marketplace, one product
Prototype an experience where the consumer and the merchant sides reinforce one another, each interaction adding to the halo the other basks in. The exploration ran through alternative main menus and flows for both audiences, held together in one coherent product.
A direction you could hold in your hand
A functioning prototype covering both journeys gave the Asia-Pacific team something concrete to react to, not slideware. Decisions about the region’s product could be made looking at a working thing, and the strongest ideas fed the thinking that followed.
